Back To The Future

[It's been an interesting few days, hasn't it, Mayfield? Sexy nurses, vampires, zombies, werewolves, inexplicable children running around. As it happens, Schuldig was involved with both the first and the last events on that list...though the former has been almost completely forgotten in favor of the latter.

No matter what people may think - what Schuldig may want them to think, deliberately lead them to think - some things can even get to him. And today, he's lying flat on his back on a bench in the park, slowly smoking his way through an entire pack of cigarettes.

He doesn't usually smoke. It's a habit he only indulges in when something is bothering him and he needs something to do to distract his hands and his mouth and his mind. Anyone who might want to approach him about encounters with a certain redhead boy, or even about encounters with a full-grown telepath in a sexy nurse outfit - this is where you'll find him.]

...So?

[Farfarello is concerned about Schuldig. He also doesn't think Schuldig is the type to want to -talk- about what's bothering him. He'll listen and talk to him if Schuldig wants to, of course, but he's more expecting that just being there and being himself will be enough for Schuldig to be reassured.]

[As it happens, Farfarello's assessment is fairly accurate. Schuldig might discuss things with Crawford - if only because neither of them saw anything they hadn't already known - but with anyone else, the most he'd be willing to discuss is how they are never, ever to discuss this topic under any circumstances.]

Here I'd thought you'd been planning to ask me questions about it.

[The weight of his curiosity about Keane is all but oppressive in the back of his mind. But that's the same as asking, isn't it? Schuldig could well know that it's there, and Farfarello figures that if he's willing to tell, he will. He's not about to upset their dynamic to pry.]

I'm curious. But it's not a priority.

It's nothing you shouldn't understand, Jei. He's dead. Leave him in his grave.

[Although "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" flashes in the back of his mind...Schuldig already -knows- about his past. Which isn't entirely fair, but hey, the price of telepathic friends.]

Touché.

I don't have a past. That boy and everything about him is dead; what part of that don't you understand?

[Have a mental image of Schuldig leaping fully formed out of a woman's body, like a bad science fiction horror. Farfarello starts to laugh, his harsh and cruel laugh utterly unbalanced and demented.]

[Schuldig returns one, as sharp and biting as a knife into flesh - of himself standing, bloody, over Keane's corpse. It's clearly a symbolic image only, meant merely to illustrate a concept, but it carries a weight like lead, pressing itself indelibly into Farfarello's mind. And, more than that, an impression of something cut off, sheared off viciously and abruptly. Of something ended and meant to stay ended.]

[He gets the point, at any rate, and seems content to let the subject drop. He's still concerned for Schuldig in general, though, such as Farfarello does 'concern', and intends to stay underfoot until Schuldig doesn't seem so bothered. Even if the conversation isn't any more serious than the weather.]

[For the moment, there doesn't seem to be any conversation at all, which is sign enough that Schuldig is still out of sorts. He's usually the voice of the group, if only because he likes listening to himself talk more than any of the rest of them. Crawford couldn't buy this sort of quiet off him, most days.]

[And that is precisely why Farfarello is here, sitting with him, and waiting for him to either speak up or perk up. Though the longer they sit there, the closer he comes to starting to mentally pray a few Hail Marys for Schuldig's sake. He knows that the German won't care, but it will be a way for him to feel like he's helping even when there's nothing much he can do aside from letting the subject drop, which he already has.]
